I love my ipod touch. But I think I should have bought the 16GB model as I have this one just about filled up. I think there was a price difference of $70. I also decided I needed a stylus to type and need a protective case.

ipod touch
October 10th, 2008 · No Comments
I picked up an ipod touch about 3 weeks ago. I love it. It is great for music and photos obviously. What I really like is a quick way to check email and check what is going on in the world in Safari.
I have made some visits to the App Store. I’ve added a few card games, an MPG program ,a budget program, a tv listings, and can use the touch as a remote control for my Apple TV.
The built in speakers work pretty good in a quiet environment.
I must admit that it took awhile to figure out how to update apps from the App Store. Now it is easy.

Web Design

I start a new, small job on Monday designing a website for a business and training the director to manage the site. It should be challenging as it is very much like teaching/tutoring. My concern is the learning curve for the trainee. We’ll see how it goes….

Sandvox

I have used Claris Home Page, Page Mill, Cyberstudio, Adobe GoLive, and Dreamweaver to build and design web pages in the last 12 or 13 years. I loved Cyberstudio and Go Live. The only one still around is Dreamweaver CS3. The transition is still not there and I can’t tap it’s potential power.
I found an easy to use alternative called Sandvox. http://www.karelia.com/
Sandvox on the surface looks easy, great interface and designs, but can be very powerful. With the Pro version one can add html code. There are also other designs that can be purchased, so check it out…

Leopard follow up
November 7th, 2007 · No Comments
Well. Final Cut Studio v 5.1.4 doesn’t work in Leopard. Nor does Super Duper at the current time. This FCP is one version behind the current version. I just upgraded in late ‘05. This includes Final Cut, Motion, Compressor, Soundtrack Pro. I did get a fantastic upgrade price, The current upgrade is much pricier, so I guess I stick with Tiger as it is stable and there isn’t any extra money to spend to run what I currently use.
I put Leopard on a partition on a backup drive. So everything is still intact on the G5. No for me in my situation. I’d vote to hold off on Leopard until I have a new computer.

Leopard install on hold
October 30th, 2007 · No Comments
Not on the bleeding edge this time… I have too much to loose and little to gain. I have the family pack but am hesitant. Here’s why. On the Powerbook I use Photoshop CS2 and the CS2 Creative Suite along with an older version of Dreamweaver. It doesn’t work in Leopard and won’t as Adobe won’t update an older version. On the G5 tower, my primary work machine which has CS3 Creative Suite there are issues with other software such as Transmit and Super Duper. There might be others. Let others find out first.
I used Leopard at the Apple store during a one to one training. I had my second session learning Final Cut. It ran fine, but so does Tiger

I know there are 2 coding errors.
I’ll work on that.

Apple Pie September notes

We arrived early to set up as usual and decided to set up the new laser printer than arrived today. The directions were either unclear or too much was going on. Anyways, of the first arrivals none of them have set up a laser printer. Their IT generally takes care of that. The mac recognized it right away. There was no need to hunt for drivers on the web.
Our meeting started with a joy of tech cartoon about the $200 refund on an original iphone.
Then we briefly looked at the new ipod lineup.I did the presentation in Keynote 08. I thought it looked good. We then looked and discussed the 12 ways Apple retains customer loyalty. Good discussion with lots of input from just about everyone.
Then we did our Q and A troubleshooting. We were able to resolve all the issues except for world peace and global warming. Really, we had 5 or 6 questions. I guess we should record these too.
The last part was an overview of the iWorks 08 Suite- Keynote, Pages, and Numbers. We needed more time for a demo but ran out of time.
Thanks to Irene for the cookies.
On October 23 we’ll look at Roxio Toast Titanium 8.
